The Africa Program is pleased
to announce that it will begin accepting
applications for its three 2005 scholarship award
programs. Follow the links below to download more
information on each of these programs and on how to

Africanist Doctoral Candidate
Fellowship
Provides an advanced graduate
student an opportunity to spend one to three summer
months in Washington D.C. Applicants must be
American citizens, currently enrolled in a doctoral
program, and have completed all academic
requirements except the dissertation. Applications
due March 1, 2005.

The Distinguished African
Scholar Award
Provides distinguished
African academics, senior diplomats and top policy
makers an opportunity to spend four-to-six months
in residency at the Woodrow Wilson Center in
Washington, D.C., in research and reflection on
policy-related subjects of the scholar’s
choosing. Applications due December 15, 2004.

The Open Society Institute
(OSI) African Policy Scholar Award
Provides emerging leaders
from African civil society the opportunity to spend
four-to-six months in Washington, D.C., and allow
their voices to be heard in the United States.
Scholars-in-residence will have access to the
policymaking and academic communities, as well as
to the vast research resources in the Washington
area. Applications due December 15, 2004.

Wilson Center Fellowships
Applying for Wilson Center
Fellowships
Besides the scholarship
awards offered by the Africa Program, Africanists
are also invited to apply for the Wilson
Center’s fellowship program, open to scholars
in all fields of the social sciences. The
application deadline for the 2005-2006 has already
passed. Applications for 2006-2007 will become
available in March 2005.
